Condensed Matter Physics

Condensed matter physics deals with the macroscopic properties of solids and liquids. It involves chemistry, quantum Mechanics, and statistical mechanics.

Some important concepts

  • Electronic band structure; i.e., the arrangement of electrons in the material.
  • The nature of phase transitions.
  • The scattering of light by crystals. (This can be used to determine compound structure.)
  • The usage of magnetic fields for NMR spectroscopy.
